Resistance

If you have been recently infected, drug resistance tests can help determine if the HIV in your blood is resistant to certain drugs.

In people who are being treated with HIV medications and continue to have increasing viral loads, drug resistance testing will help indicate which drug is failing and which drugs might be most effective in completely suppressing the virus.

You can reduce your risk of developing drug resistance by taking all your drugs exactly as they are prescribed by your doctor. If you are having trouble taking your medications because of side effects or illness, talk to your doctor right away.
